Bath Open Studios isn't only about the individual trails. We hold group exhibitions in a variety of community spaces around Bath, from the RUH to 44AD to Bath Central Library. As well as giving an opportunity for local artists to meet and share work with each other, these exhibitions showcase the work available all year round in all seven Bath Open Studios art trails and open studios. To submit work into these group shows, artists need only to have taken part in one of Bath's art trails and open studios in recent years, even if they're not due to take part in any this year.

Exhibition Details and Submission Guidelines
The ‘Outside the Box’ exhibition will take place in 44AD’s Main Gallery situated on the ground floor. 44AD is an artspace on Abbey Street in central Bath.
‘Outside the Box’ is a notional title. Work can be a literal take, or artists can think ‘outside the box’ to create a more expressionistic and abstract work. Feel free to interpret the theme as you wish!

- Artists are invited to submit work if they have taken part in the past few years in one of the seven art trails and open studios in Bath (Bath Artists’ Studios, Batheaston Art Trail, Bear Flat Artists, Combe Down Art Trail, Larkhall Open Studios, Newbridge Arts Trail, Widcombe Art Trail).
- Artwork must not have appeared in any previous BOS exhibition (eg: RUH, Library) or in any exhibition at 44AD in the past twelve months. A maximum of two artworks per person, even if artists exhibit in different art trails or create both 2D and 3D work. If a piece sells and is taken away during the exhibition, the artist is permitted to replace with a similar sized piece, confirmed first with BOS.
- 2D artwork of any size and medium is welcome but ideally no bigger than 90cm x 90cm (including frame if applicable). Strictly no clipart-frames.
- 3D pieces of any size and medium is acceptable. However, we suggest floor-standing work is no larger than 100cm x 55cm x 55cm; for shelf, table or plinth mounted works, no larger than 55cm x 55cm x 55cm.
- Fees There is no fee to submit work but there will be a £10 gallery hanging fee for the first artwork accepted into the show, plus a £5 fee for any additional hung artworks. 44AD has 20% sales commission, or 10% for 44AD Associates.
- Insurance All artwork (including canvases) is exhibited at the artist's own risk.
- Stewarding the exhibition requires artists to volunteer to fill a three-and-a-half hour morning or afternoon slot on one of the days the exhibition is open. If you can help steward, please confirm which dates and times you may be able to do when you submit. 'Art at the Heart' at the RUH: 16th October 2023 - 14th January 2024
We regularly hold group exhibitions at the Royal United Hospital's 'Art at the Heart' - which is an award winning art and design programme that stimulates healing and well-being and creates an uplifting environment for the hospital's patients, visitors and staff.
Artists and makers from all seven Bath art trails show their works in the Central Gallery at the RUH. Paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics and mosaic are put on show and, with a third of all sales going towards the 'Art at the Heart' programme, it's a great opportunity not only to buy something unique and locally made but also to support the vital works of 'Art at the Heart'. Showing a selection in the hospital corridors is an exciting taste of the works which are created and available during the trails each year. A sample from our exhibitions over the years at the RUH
